King Estate Signature Pinot Gris 2008

Pinot Gris is a featured varietal in Oregon. King Estate does it as well or better than anyone. The San Francisco Chronicle agreed, giving this wine their Double Gold. They also named it one of the best 100 wines of 2009, as did Wine Spectator. We brought it into the store before any of the ratings because it out drank lots of wines we tasted.

Review

Wine Spectator, December 15, 2009, 90 points and designated Smart Buy. "Bright and lively, brimming with lemon meringue, golden raisin and green tea character. Finishes with zip. Drink now. 71,000 cases made. –HS"

Winemaker notes

"2008 was a classic Oregon vintage. A cool spring started the vintage off slowly, but warm summer weather allowed the grapes to catch up and grow at a steady, even pace. Estate heat summation was typical, 1807 growing degree days vs. the average 1811. The summer saw below average rain fall with only 6.75 inches between April and October, including a minimal 1.5 inches that fell during the critical late-September/early-October pre-harvest period. As a result, fruit was clean, ripe and concentrated.
