California

California has vineyards planted with most varietals. It's a mature market, with well established, and well known areas, grapes, wines, and wineries. At The Wine House we carry some of the best-known names like Chateau Montelena, Caymus, Cakebread, and others. What we think is also interesting is that California has small vineyards, with hand-crafted, low production wines. Most of those never make it out of the state, but we've cultivated relationships with the wineries, the winemakers, and importantly with distributors who take the time to seek out and bring these wines to Upstate New York.

California is becoming well-known for a group called the Rhone Rangers, who make American Rhone-style wines with the 22 Rhone varietals. They have about 200 winery members, 110 Professional and Grower Associates, and almost 800 Sidekicks (signup at their Sidekick page if you want to join their mailing list). We love some of these wines, and carry them.
